From Launch to Action: Leveraging IPBES Nexus Assessment, 19th March, 2025
Following the launch of the Nexus Assessment at the closing of the IPBES11 Plenary session in December 2024 in Windhoek, Namibia, CABES organized its first webinar of 2025. Focusing on African IPBES National Focal Points and other African stakeholders, the webinar, which was facilitated by Dr. Da Sylvestre (CABES Regional Coordinator/WASCAL), started off with a brief presentation of CABES by its Program Coordinator (Dr. Isimemen Osemwegie/ZEF, Uni Bonn), followed by welcome addresses by the IPBES secretariat (Dr. Simone Schiele), the IPBES Africa Chair (Prof. Sebsebe Demissew) and the IPBES MEP Bureau (Dr. Eric Fokam).
The plenary session began with an introduction to the Nexus Assessment with regard to its uptake by one of its Coordinating Lead Authors (Dr. Nadia Sitas). The Head of the Technical Support Unit for the Nexus Assessment, Dr. Tiff van Huysen, was also present at the webinar.
This was followed by a presentation on the role of National Platforms in implementing the IPBES Nexus Assessment by CABES (Abisha Mapendembe, CABES National Multistakeholder Platform Coordinator/UNEP–WCMC). An interactive breakout session started an exchange on identifying actionable steps for national policy-making in African regions (not part of the recording).
While the webinar was held in English and French, the recording is only available in English.
This webinar was the first of a series focusing on the two newest IPBES Assessments and their uptake in Africa, the Nexus Assessment and the Transformative Change Assessment.
